Project estimation

Is it possible to estimate the duration of a whole project, not only single estimates for particular issues?

Hi @Antun Štefančić,

There is a difference between estimation and duration. It is best to use estimation as the actual amount of work you think you will be investing to get work done. This is what you enter on issues.

Duration is how long it will take to complete work. This is usually longer than the actual hours being spent and can be tracked during date custom fields on the same issues (most commonly: start date and due date, but you can define your own fields if you want). Jira has roadmaps features available to help you visualise this.

Yet again, these dates are fields on issues. The basic roadmap from the free and standard plans let you visualise the roadmap up to the Epic level issues in your project, but not at the project level. In the premium plan, you get Advanced Roadmaps, where you can extend the issue hierarchy of Jira above the Epic level. You can add projects (initiatives) as an additional issue type above Epics and then visualise your schedule to higher levels as well.

Hope this helps!

Ty for clarifying everything. But in conclusion the answer to my question would be "No", as I cant "estimate" the whole project but only issues?
