Quick searching for a number which defined in a custom field

Deleted user April 13, 2018

one custom field defined as 'number', but most often used by search , just by this number.

can quick search reaching custom field to bring issues up based on this custom field ?

e.g. customer field named as QQQQ,  number in this field from 1-10000

in quick search, input 5555,  then the issue containing 5555 in QQQQ shows up in search result or at least one of them :-)

Hey Quan,

You cannot do this with a number field. Please view this page for more information.

Thank you! is there a way to re-configure this number field to something else, like 'string' 'text' type, then we can search by the number ?

the number 4-digits,  between 1-5588

by the way, we can have the search result based on this field, both by adv and basic. no problem,  just thinking there is another way. :-)

Hey Quan,

It appears that specifically using the "quick search" you cannot search for text fields other than the system fields of summary, description, and comments. I apologize that my previous answer didn't make that clear.

If you are looking to switch specifically to gain the "quick search" functionality, it will not work for a couple of reasons:

  1.  When you type a number into your search bar, it will try to navigate to that issue number for the project you last visited. For example, if I were to type "1" into the search bar, and I had last visited the project "AB" it would try and navigate me to "AB-1".
  2. The free form text search will only search the comment, description, and comments field. It does not support searching custom fields.

You can't "change" custom fields from one type to another, but you can create a new custom field and copy the contents between the two custom fields. This could either be a manual process, or a plugin might be able to help.
