Hello @srikrishnap

One way is to use a Kanban board in Jira to elect value-adding epics and initiatives and kill those that do not add value. SAFe calls this 'The Program Kanban'. Rather than having 'To do - In progress - Done' columns, you use 'Funnel – Reviewing – Analyzing' column headers in this special Kanban board. See 'Approach 2' here https://softwareplant.com/jira-bigpicture-kanban/

Another recommendation for those into SAFe would be to use apps that do not necessarily scream 'I'm for SAFe'. BigPicture is an example. As good for SAFe, as it is for waterfall and hybrid departments of an organization, don't put all your eggs in one basket, brace for the evolution of your SAFe implementation, etc.

Thanks for your response. Does Bigpicture support epics->features-> stories as jira doesn't have this hierarchy mechanism ? Any videos or documentation on this ?  We want to do PI planning . Do you have reference step by step documentation ? What is the difference between Bigpicture 7 and newer version 8 ? What you can and cannot do ?

Yes, BP has a work breakdown structure that you can configure to nicely display the epics->features-> stories hierarchy. To set the hierarchy, go to BP Program configuration > Task > Task structure > see screenshot. Having done this, you can see the hierarchy in Scope, Gantt chart, and Board modules, as well as within Jira issue detail view (BigPicture WBS widget).

BP8 builds on BP7.

Three new modules -- Roadmap 2.0, Board 2.0, and Reports -- made the highlights of BP7. These new modules brought the BP7 closer to SAFe ideal, but BigPicture remains equally applicable to the waterfall, hybrid, and agile teams.

BP8 adds [Boxes] ~flexible portfolio management. While in BP7 you had 'programs' as the top level of the hierarchy, with BigPicture 8 you can build "trees" of portfolios, programs, projects, ARTs, phases, etc. The first screenshot in this article depicts the idea.  You can display separate Gantt charts, Roadmaps, Boards for Portfolio 1, Program A, Project B. You can even rename a Gantt chart, say for Program A, to 'whatever my methodology naming' is.

BP7 was released in Sep 2018, BP8 is to debut in 2020. For those who have an active BP7 subscription, the upgrade is free.
