Regarding issue layout, to add custom field under description fields, only after transition happens

abhishek.s-j January 17, 2024

I have a custom field associated with a screen when transitioned to RESOLVED, I have default value for that field, with questions in at, below which assignee can answer,

But the problem is, I want this to get added to "description fields" in issue view screen after transitioning into resolve, How do we do that ?

I did try various option, one was to drag my custom field under description fields in issue layout under project settings, but doing so adds the field into issue view, even before transition happens, though I have associated it separately with only resolve issue screen.

How to do this, by making field appear after it was filled , when It gets transitioned to RESOLVED ?

Hi @abhishek.s-j

As per my understanding,

- you have a custom field (having a default value) associated to a transition screen when resolving the issue. Is this correct? Question - what kind of field is this? And if it has a default value, where is the assignee have to answer ?

- could you please explain what do you mean by - "But the problem is, I want this to get added to "description fields" in issue view screen after transitioning into resolve, How do we do that ?"

Do you want the answer of the assignee for the custom field to be added in description? Or am I missing something?

Happy to help. But could you explain what exactly is you are trying to achieve?

Thank you.

Hello @Harsh , The field is of type paragraph, that is a multi line text field, I have associated this field with resolve issue screen.

The field has default value as below:

Default Value:

Question 1: abcde
Response:

Question 2: efghi
Response:

etc..

The assignee has to answer below each question where Response is prompted.

Hi @abhishek.s-j

Did not the notification.  What you are doing is like a dynamic form. Which can be achieved via automation.

Sorry for asking another questions, but need to know, as you mentioned the field has a default  value as below,
Question 1: abcde
Response 1:

Question 2: efghi
Response 2 :

Do you have multiple questions? and are all the questions mandatory? Based on my under response 1 and Response 2 separate multi line fields? and when DONE you want the value Response 1 and Response 2 to be entered in DESCRIPTION Field in view/edit screen or just view? including the existing description `? or remove the old one?

I want this custom filed to be moved into description fields part of the issue view layout, only after transition happens to Resolved state. ----- what do you mean my MOVE to the custom field into description. The values entered for REPONSE (custom field= by the user right?

The whole custom field should be either associated to either view/edit screen right ?

I was mentioning that

Hi @abhishek.s-j

Based on my understanding -
You want the custom response field to be in the description fields part of the issue edit/ view layout, only when Resolved.

Solution: Perform the steps

  • Add the custom field (multi line) in the edit and view screen, and arrange based on your req.
  • Then add the field in the transition screen (in Resolve Transition) where you want the user to answer.
  • Go to Behaviour (Admin -> Scriptrunner -> Behavior), create a new behavior -Give the name, add the mapping to project, and the issue type.
  • In this behavior - Add the Response Fields(custom multi line) and make it as hidden, as well as give condition (except - when the status is Resolved and Action is whatever the transition name is (ex. Resolved). Save the behavior.

Now these 2 fields only be visible when the status is RESOLVED. It will work if you want this.

I hope this helps. Update me if this works.

You MIGHT be able to do it with scripting, but there is not out of the box way to do it. I suggest you create a new question asking for help with scripting and describe what you need. I don't use it so I can't help with that.
