Report Organized By Stories & Sub-tasks

I have been searching for the functionality or an add-on that will produce a report with the structure depicted in the below image. We have several epics that have stories and sub-tasks (standard Jira structure shown in first image). 

From those epics, we need to produce a report that has the structure shown below, that lists each story with the story's sub-tasks listed below their parent. Ordering is not a problem, the issue that needs to be solved is grouping the sub-tasks with their parent. We need to specify which fields are included in the report, such as summary and status but we also need to include web links if at all possible.

Has anyone made a report like this? If so, how did you do it? What add-on did you use?

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Mike,

That sounds exactly like what Structure for Jira is designed to accomplish (full disclosure, I work for the company that makes Structure). You can define which epics to put at the top level and then build out a tree-type hierarchy of the stories below them and then the sub-tasks below their respective stories below that.

You can also add in the rows for each field you'd like to see (it's very Excel-like, so should be fairly familiar), you can also roll up any of that field information if it's numerical. I added a quick screenshot to give you an idea of how it works, or feel free to play around in our demo instance.

Than you for responding Phil. Structure is on our short-list for evaluation. Do you have an example report that includes Web Links that have been added to sub-tasks? Also, time reporting is not in scope for this project so time spent specifically needs to be excluded from the report. Ultimately the report will need to be in PDF format so it can be eSigned.

Happy new year, I have three ways to do this even.

1. If the Web Links are referenced in a field, you can just add the column, if it's a web link type field it will automatically be represented as such. This exact same mechanism works if it's a link that Jira automatically recognizes as a clickable link (think other Jira tickets, Confluence pages, attachments, etc)
2. If it's just text, you can "convert" it to a html link by representing it in our super powerful formula column (you just fill in the field as the formula definition), then set the column to represented as wiki markup and it's automatically a clickable link.
3. We can get even fancier with our formulas and define link text and where it points to, similar to 2 but much more customizable.

If you don't like or need the time aggregation, you can add and remove columns as needed. Save any set of columns you like for quick recall later.

Export to PDF comes out of the box, click the export button in the top right.

eazyBI for Jira offers a default Epic hierarchy, which includes the hierarchy of Epic->Standart issue types (story, feature, etc.)->Sub-task issues types.
Here is an example of how the hierarchy looks in eazyBI and what type of report you can create:

also have a look at JXL for Jira. It's a full-fledged table/spreadsheet view for your issues that produces the view that you're looking for with one click; this is how it looks in action:

Among many other things, you can view and inline-edit any field, change issues in bulk via copy/paste, filter and sort issues quickly (just like in Excel/Google Sheets), configure other hierarchy structures, export to XSLX or CSV, etc. etc. You also notice that JXL is extremely fast, even with very large amounts of issues.

Thanks Hannes, looks interesting. Do you have an example that displays Web Links that have been added to sub-tasks? What does it look like when exported to PDF?

JXL can show any field (standard Jira field or custom field), so in whatever way you're storing your web links, JXL should show them just fine. If you give me some context on how you're storing these web links, I can put together a quick video!

For the export to PDF, JXL doesn't currently export to PDF directly, but has a very nice XSLX (i.e., Excel or Google Sheets) export. So you'd export to XSLX first, open in Excel or Google Sheets, and export as PDF from there.

Thanks for responding. Time reporting is not a requirement. As I mentioned, Web Links are a requirement - do you have an example that shows displaying Web Links that are added to sub-tasks?
