I work for a company that has recently purchased two other companies. All three use Jira Cloud. I have access to all three but find it hard to manage my JQL in each.
Question: Can I report from multiple versions of Jira?
Ideally, I would like to use an add-on or service to run my JQL and return one result from each of the Jira instances.
Does Jira Align allow us to report on multiple instances?
Thanks in advance
Hey @Wesley Whitlam
welcome to the Atlassian Community. I haven't used these apps but know that they're doing something at least close to your requirement:
There are probably others, I don't know about - I'm counting on the community to throw them in.
Cheers,
Matthias.
PS: Another approach would be to synchronize issues from the other two Jiras into yours and then report via the usual way. If you want to look into that aspect, check out issue sync apps in the marketplace. I'm part of the team behind Backbone Issue Sync and happy to help with any questions.
I am part of the team behind Dashboard Hub, I'd like to thank @Matthias Gaiser _K15t_ for mentioning our app. He's completely right!
Dashboard Hub lets you create powerful custom charts with JQL combining data from different instances, this is, you can display Data Center data in a Cloud dashboard, for example. Check this slide to understand it better (check the name of the gadgets):
I'd also love to mention that these four gadgets are really the same one, the JQL Custom Charts gadget. This illustrates perfectly the freedom you have to build metrics the way you need. Apart from this, Dashboard Hub includes +70 robust original gadgets, pre-defined dashboard templates, external sharing, and much more.
Hope it helps :) Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions

Hey @Wesley Whitlam -
My team is able to help with this at minware. We can definitely bring all of the orgs "under one roof" and apply the same data science practice / lens to each. This would help standardize your processes a bit and provide a common language to use across your teams.
I don't recommend trying to benchmark the orgs against each other and would keep things separate in your analysis. Software engineering is very sophisticated and that is likely to be a slippery slope. Our team went through an acquisition (exit) in 2021 so we have recent experience with this first hand and can provide some unique perspective if you want to talk more about your requirements and what you're looking to do.

Hey @Wesley Whitlam hope all is well! Curious if you were able to solve for this?

I purchased the PowerBI Connector from AlphaServe and used it for all three instances and was able to generate reports from PowerBI. Each connection is a data source in a shared report. I am able to present the data for all three companies in one view.

@Wesley Whitlam - I hope it is serving your needs. When you get to the "next level" of reporting requirements you should definitely check out minware. There are reports that you wont be able to generate in PowerBI including:
(1) https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-75868 <- tickets added after the start of a sprint
(2) https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-62109 <- rolled up story points
(3) https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JSWCLOUD-18677 <- drilling down to subtask level
These are available "out of the box" in minware due to our ability to blend Jira + Git data as well as a ton of other metrics to help your teams improve estimation.
The 3 features I mentioned above:
(1)
(2) / (3)
Let me know if we can ever help!
