Reporting on subtasks that relate to a task and therefore an Epic

Jonathan Klug January 19, 2022

Hi -  I  have multiple EPICs each of which have around 10 tasks each and within those 10 tasks there are around 6 sub tasks. The sub tasks are allocated to 3 different people. I am struggling to build a report or filter where I can show just the sub task assigned to a specific person but also show what task and Epic they belong to.

Bear in mind I'm not a developer and can't use the JQL script to develop a report is there any way I can achieve this - Im happy to pay for a third party app if there is one.

Thanks very much for your help which would be very appreciated

Hi @Jonathan Klug

To visualize your Epic Hierarchy, we have created an app

Agile Tools - Epic Tree, Links Tree and Time in Status

You can also view the full Jira Issue Type hierarchy of Linked issues, Portfolio/Advanced Roadmaps, Epics, and Subtasks up to 10 levels.

Key features :

  • Hierarchy upto 10 levels deep
  • Progress % on "remaining estimate" or "original estimates"
  • Edit Issue summary, time estimates, story points and assignee on the tree with real time updates in the progress
  • Rolled up percentage completion at all levels
  • Ability to add/remove the columns on the report

Along with this there are multiple other features like Time in Status, Worklogs reports etc which the app provides.

Thanks @Rahul_RVS  Rahul - maybe I missed it  in the video but I didn't clearly see that we can show 3 levels  in the hierarchy with your product . Essentially I want a report, list,  board , filter  - whatever  - that shows me for  a specific subtask what the task ( parent of subtask) and what the Epic is (Tasks parent). Bear in mind Im not using stories at all.

So for each row in the list I need Epic, task and subtask

Hi @Jonathan Klug

Yes, the app shows 3 level hierarchy. You can have Stories or Tasks below Epics.

It will track the hierarchy. Adding another image with Epic -> Task -> Subtask hierarchy.

There is another video you may want to look at,

Please let me know for any further queries.

Thanks

Rahul

Hi Rahul - I install the app and it sure does show the 3 level hierarchy so does what I want - Thank you so much for your responsiveness and suggestion. Product look great. Just checking one thing - is there any way if we export to Excel that we can show the hierarchy using indents for the tasks and sub tasks - that would be the cherry on the top. thanks gain

Hi @Jonathan Klug

Yes we have that feature as well.

It exports to CSV format.

Please see the screen grabs. Hope it helps.

I saw the excel export  and did try it and I suppose what I want is rather than show the keys htat way  show the summary name in that way.

Or indent the Summary name so the hierarchy is visible there. Thanks again

Hi @Jonathan Klug

Yes sure. We will add this request in our backlog items.

And have it included in our subsequent releases.

Thanks

Hi @Jonathan Klug

you might want to have a look at JXL for Jira. It's a full-fledged table/spreadsheet view for your issues that can generate the view that you're looking for in one click:

JXL allows you to freely configure the columns you want to include, and comes with full support for inline editing, simple sorting and filtering, and much more. There's also a great Excel export.

(Disclaimer: I work on JXL :))

Hope this helps,

Hannes
