Restrict Jira access to some users

Shabaz May 8, 2024

is it possible to add someone to a subtask in the Jira project board without them seeing/having access to the rest of the board?  they’d be tracking time in/would be assigned to them

Please suggest

Thanks,

Hi @Shabaz

Welcome to the community!

There are a couple of workarounds you can consider:

1. Issue Security Level: You can define an issue security level in Jira and apply it to the parent issue. By setting a more restrictive security level for the parent issue, you can limit visibility to a specific group of users. This way, even if a user has access to the board, they won't be able to see the parent issue or its subtasks if they don't have the necessary security level permissions.

2. Create a separate board: If you want to track time and assign subtasks to someone without giving them access to the rest of the board, you can create a separate board specifically for that purpose. This way, you can add the user to the new board and assign them the subtasks they need to work on, keeping the rest of the board hidden from them.

Hi @Shabaz

Possible in Jira but you would have to configure issue security levels and schemes to achieve this ask. The topic could be bit advanced.
