Schedule Tasks in Roadmap?

I'm trying to determine if my Sprint deadlines are realistic.  I have assigned resources and estimated hours (days) to all tasks.  Can I get Jira to lay this out in Roadmaps (like a Gantt Chart) showing the tasks being done in order and respecting the dependencies?

When I look at the Roadmap now it just makes each task the entire length of the Sprint.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us and share your feedback, we really appreciate it and we will consider this for further improvements to our product.  Currently we don't support this feature in Roadmaps, but just to clarify:

  • Did you want the tasks to be ordered in a way that the "To do" items are grouped first, followed by "In progress" and then "Done"?
  • Did you want tasks with dependencies to each other to be listed under each other?
  • If the task's bar is not the length of its sprints, is there another way that it could be represented that was more meaningful to you e.g. based on the estimated hours (days)?

Although this feature is not supported in Roadmaps, "Advanced Roadmaps" offers many sorting features, which you can trial as part of our Jira Software premium offering, see https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/how-advanced-roadmaps-sorts-issues/ for more information on Advanced Roadmaps sorting features and  https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-articles/Introducing-Advanced-Roadmaps/ba-p/1378497 for more information about Advanced Roadmaps.

Hi Jessica. Thanks for your response.

I tried the "Advanced Roadmaps", but that feature does not work with team managed projects.

I would like the task's bar to be its estimated length in hours (time estimate) and then have them line up one after another by resource - so that a resources is working on one task at a time.  That way I can tell if any resource has too many hours booked in the sprint.

Or is there another way that I can tell if a resource is overbook in a sprint?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

Thank you for explaining. We currently don't support this feature in Team managed projects, but we will consider it when making improvements to our product.

On the other hand, the other option is if you were to use Company managed projects, the backlog shows you the workload (story points / number of issues) per assignee. Go to the backlog > click on the meatball menu next to the assignee list under the sprint name/dates. However this uses story points and not the time estimate.

Regards,

Jess
