Schedule automatic updates to filters

Ross Musselman March 16, 2020

Our business uses one project to hold all sprints in the company. Each sprint lasts a week. We then use four filters to display the work for that week for the various teams and individuals. This means that each Monday morning, I must:
* Start the new sprint

* Update each of the relevant filters to use the new Sprint ID.

Is there a way to automate either of the two above actions?

Kind regards,

Ross

hi @Ross Musselman -

update all filters to set sprint value as open sprint.. it should work automatically.

eg) project = xyz and sprint in opensprints()

Please let us know if it doesn't work or if you need more help.

Hi Sajir.

That is a good solution generally, but in this case it is a little bit inconvenient. Here's what happens:

Week 11 Sprint ends on Sunday night. Cases in Sprint 11 are unresolved, for whatever reason (the person was sick, the estimate wasn't right, whatever). Sprint 12 needs to start on Monday morning, but we need a few hours of work to process the hold-overs from Week 11. Some go back to backlog, some move to Sprint 12.

So on Monday morning, using opensprints() means that developers often miss the urgent thing that was scheduled for Monday morning, because their board is now mixed.

If I was using a server edition, I would setup a cronjob that would get the sprint parameter of the filters and increment it on a weekly basis. Obviously that doesn't work on a cloud solution.

And maybe opensprints() is the best we can do for now. I just didn't see anything like this in the forums and wanted to see if anyone else has the need to increment filters.

Thanks again for the suggestion.
