Set a custom field on an Issue based on Epic Link being updated

Kelly McAteer March 6, 2023

Hi,

I'm trying to update an automation rule in one of my projects to update a custom field called "Account" on my issues when the Epic Link is updated.

I can't seem to select Epic Link as a field to monitor when setting up my automation rule and using Parent Link doesn't work.

This is what I have so far:

Any ideas? Cheers.

Hello @Kelly McAteer

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

That is, unfortunately, correct. You can't select the Epic Link field in the trigger.

Instead you have to use the Issue Updated trigger and then check the changelog to see if the Epic Link field changed.

In this case I am confirming that the change was not to simply remove the issue from an Epic, but to either change from one Epic to another or to add it to an Epic where it was not part of any Epic before.

Thanks for the help @Trudy Claspill !!

I forgot to include this in my initial question but is there a way to say essentially "if Epic Link = Epic A then set Account = Account A" "if Epic Link = Epic B then set Account = Account B"

Thank you!

Yes. Following the "Compare two values" step add an If/Else step.
