Several questions for JIRA

Shaohong Cai April 16, 2022

1. How to create a board that contains more than one project?

In the current flow, there are no matched projects when I select "create aborad with the existing project" although I already created two projects. In the board settings, no edit entry for the project linked. I remember the flow is easy and simple before.

2. How to make the child of an epic be an issue instead of a subtask?

I think the previous configuration is easy and simple. But right now, I can only see the field settings for each issue type. No configuration of the hierarchy there.

Overall, although it's beautiful now. It's really confusing.

Welcome to the Community!

Boards are a view of a selection of issues, chosen by the board fitter. If you go to board configuration, you can see and edit the fitter.  They usually default to a simple "project = abc"

Epics are a special type of issue and can contain other issues and subtasks.  These are done in different ways.  Children of epics are done by setting the epic link on the child.  Sub tasks are done by creating sub tasks within the issue.  Sub tasks do not hev epic links, they are a part of their parent.

In my board setting, the project field is uneditable...It's so weired.

At the same time, when creating/editing issues, there's no epic fields where I can choose the epic for the issues.

Boards don't have a project field, they are located within projects.

Only epics have epic fields, except for the issue-level issues (story, issue, bug, etc).  They have an epic-link field, in which you can select their parent Epic if you want to put them in an Epic.  Sub-task types assume their Epic-link from their parent issue.
