Showing subtasks on a team-managed board

I have created a team-managed project consisting of a single issue type and subtasks. It is incredibly important that the sub-tasks be seen on the board and can be moved from column to column. However, I cannot seem to make that happen.

I've checked the documentation and it says that I should set the Group By to "Subtask" but the Group By dropdown only offers Status, Priority, and Assignee.

Help?

Hi @Jonathan Ginter

Is this a Work Management Project?

If yes, this isn't possible at this stage; the "Group by" option for Sub-tasks is only available in Software Projects.

You can view Sub-tasks on a JWM Board...

  1. Look for an issue with at least one sub-tasks
  2. On the card should be a grey button (eg. "0/1")
  3. Select the button to see a Sub-task

The "0/1" means there is 1 Sub-task, and 0 closed. If it was done then it would be "1/1", if there was 10 it would be "0/10", etc.

But you cannot move the Sub-tasks on the board independent of the parent. You have to click the Sub-task to open its detail view, and change the status here.

See more information on this help page: https://support.atlassian.com/jira-work-management/docs/create-and-edit-issues-and-subtasks-on-the-board/#View-subtasks-on-your-board

Im having this same issue! Does someone have a solution? This is a team managed project, kanban board, I have subtasks as an issue type. If I move over to the List view, subtasks will show. But I want to see subtasks on board view... is this not even possible? TYSM

If I click on Group By, the options are:

Status (default)

Priority

Assignee

Category

I've been trying to solve this issue and all anyone says is to use the group by filter... that does not work! Even under filters there is not a subtask option. WTF

Hi @Jonathan Ginter ,

the only reason I can think of why "Group By" will not give you the Subtask option is that your project is missing the Subtask issue type. Did you check under Project settings > issue types if you have a subtask issue type?
