Site title doesn't update after renaming project

Nathan January 2, 2023

Hi,

Let's say I created a project in Jira Software titled "Test Project". The initials automatically set to "TP" and the title of the board in the window tab (i.e. in the header) reads "TP board - Agile board - Jira".

But then I change the name of the project to "Actually This", and rename the initials to "AT". The board calls itself that everywhere in the app, e.g. it creates tickets with `AT-` as the prefix. But the title is still "TP board".

This is obviously a bug so just wanted to report it (and I was routed here after seeking the technical support page - I'd think Atlassian should listen to bug reports but maybe that's just me).

Thanks.

Hi @Nathan ,

that is the board name. You can change it manually.

Go to the board itself -> board settings

then you can change the name

Hope this helps,

Thanks Fabio. Looks like the problem is that I'm on a Team-Managed Board which does not have the option for Board Settings. Who knows why - how frustrating.

I guess I'll have to create a Company-Managed Board, migrate everything/everyone across, then access the settings.. just to change the board name.

I don't think that is a bug. You need to rename the board name similar as you have done with project name and project key.

You can rename the board to reflect what you want. If you are using Jira Cloud , just go to Board settings -> General-Hover over the board name -> click on the pen icon to edit.

If you were expecting the board name to change automatically based on the project Key then to the best of my knowledge that is not how it works. A project can have multiple boards with different names, so assuming we want the board name to change based on the project key then all the boards within that project will have the same name and we won't be able to figure out what they meant until we open each board.

Hope this helps?

Thanks Kwame. Doesn't solve the problem but I guess it's because I'm on a Team-Managed Board.

@Nathan

I forgot to include URL in the early gif image. I have included it now.

To change the board name in Team managed project, just click on the board name at the top of the search in the board view.
