Some Epics do not show tasks on the timeline

Jean-Paul July 1, 2025

Hi,

In my timeline I have several Epics, all of them have child tasks, but some of the epics do not show the foldout icon and the progress bar, see attached image, the topmost epic is selected and shows tasks on the right. Any idea why the foldout and progress is not visible?

Note: Strangely new tasks will show up under the epic in the timeline view, then also the progress is back again, but only for that new task. See below, on the right the complete amount of progress (90%) on the left, only showing one task and 0% progress?

Hello @Jean-Paul ,

Thank you for the details.

I have follow-up questions on this to understand it in detail.

1. Is there any custom filtering on the timeline view that might exclude older or differently created issues?

2. Could you try editing one of the "missing" child issues (e.g., update the summary slightly or toggle a label, or update Start/End dates) and check if that triggers a UI refresh in the timeline?

If this persists even after interaction with the issue, I’d recommend raising a support ticket with Atlassian.

@pawarsachin84  It seems like editing the child tasks did the trick thanks for your support!

Hello @Jean-Paul ,

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

The progress bar appears under a parent item only if it has child issues in the same project backlog

For more information you can refer this ->
Progress Bar is not shown for few Epics on the Timeline.

Could you please confirm me if an Epic’s stories/tasks belong to a different project than the Epic itself?

Thanks for the quick reply,

Yes both epic and task are in the same project backlog. I've exported both tasks (the one showing and the one not showing) to xml to do a diff and checked if both parent ids were the same, which they were.
