Specific Users appear in User Management but not in User Picker

Hi.

Previously we were adding users into the JIRA User Directory, but recently we have integrated JIRA with Active Directory, and so we are having duplicate users (some with similar username).

So i'm now performing the below :

1. Rename the current user ID (for those with similar username as AD)

2. Re-assign issues from current user ID to AD user UD

3. Assign the same Project Roles to the AD user ID as per the current user ID

Unfortunately when I try to perform steps (2) and (3), the AD user ID doesn't appear in the User Picker.

However the one place that it does appear is in the Issues Explorer (Issues -> Search for issues),  in the "Assignee" field.

I'm using version 7.9.2

Please assist.

Thank you.

Hi durairaj.sinnaiah@mattheyasia.com,

To me, it sounds like your new AD user does not have the correct permissions to view the issues your trying to assign to it. Hence why the name does not appear in the user picker.

Check that your new AD user is listed under the Roles (either individually or as part of a group) of the projects who's issues you're trying to assign.

Regards,

Gary

Hi @Gary Pasquale, thank you for the reply.

Unfortunately i'm having the same issue when I try assigning Roles to the user in the project as well.. when I click on "Add users to a role", and the user picker comes up, as I type the user's name it doesn't appear in the list.

Thanks.

Hi durairaj.sinnaiah@mattheyasia.com,

Difficult to answer without seeing your configuration.

Compare the two users access. Is the AD user in the same groups as the internal user?

Hi @Gary Pasquale,

Yes, the AD user has the same group (Jira-User) as the internal user.

durairaj.sinnaiah@mattheyasia.com - and on the project/s your assigning issues from/to, Jira-user is listed in the User role?

Hi @Gary Pasquale, you mean add to the Project Role (as shown below) ?

JIRA.png

I only want selected users to be added as "Users" in the project role, and not all the users, because currently all the users are in the "jira-users" group.

durairaj.sinnaiah@mattheyasia.com, either you need the jira-users group listed in the 'User' role or you need the AD user named in the 'User' role

The third option would be (what we do) another user group that contains the AD users added to the 'User' role.

If none of the above are true, then the new AD user won't be able to view the project's issues (all this is dependant on the permission scheme but we'll assume that has the default settings for now)

Hi @Gary Pasquale, thanks you for your suggestions.
I've used the third option, which is to create a new group, add the AD user into that group, and assign the group to the Project Role, and this worked :)

Thank you very much :)
