We have an automation rule that auto-assigns a sub-task issue to the person that created the issue - in order to save clicks.
However, we do NOT want the system to email us each time the sub-task is auto-assigned.
Is there a way to STOP these emails?
I do not see a way within the automation rule that I set up for our project.
Thanks in advance!
When a person or an automation rule assigns an issue to a user, this user will always get a notification mail.
you mean this mail?
If Automation sends you other mails, these ones must exist as an automation rule, as @John Funk mentioned in his last post.
Then, how do I discover these "other" rules? I currently do not see any other rules - either globally or for the particular project.
Please advise.
Thanks.

Hi Rich - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Who does the email say it is coming from? Do you have a step in your rule that sends and email? Have you checked the Notification Scheme for the project to see when emails are sent?

Email comes from: "Automation for Jira".
None of the automation rule steps have any way to dictate email settings.
I deleted the "Issue Created" notification but this did not help. (Unless you mean something else when you say "checked the Notification Scheme"?

If I understand correctly, the rule is fired when a sub-task is created. Correct?
But there is no component in your rule that sends an email. Correct?
But the email is coming from Automation For Jira. Correct?
So that tells me that there is another rule somewhere that you have that sends the email - outside of this rule.
Does the text of the email give you any clue as to where that other rule might be?

Your assumptions are all correct.
There are no global rules set up nor are there other project rules.
When this occurs and you check within the sub-task that was created, the system only mentions the one automation rule that auto-assigns the sub-task. There is no mention of any other rules.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks.

You would not see a note in the history of the issue for when an email is sent.
Does the email text saying anything related at all?
I think you might have to start with all of the rules you have and go through one by one to see which one might be doing it. But it has to be coming from somewhere.
On a side note - what type of project is it?

The email From address is: "Automation for Jira" with the email address that was configured for our organization.
The particular project is using a "next-gen" Scrum template.

Finally tracked down that the default for Jira is to send an email to you when something is assigned to you. You can turn that off with your personal settings here:
https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/manage-your-jira-personal-settings/
But that applies across the board, not just for Automation For Jira.

Thanks John. I had noticed that before. It is a way to deal with the "issue" but then you would not get an email when a human being assigns an item to you.
I will let my team know that they can try this route - even though it is a bit clunky.
