Stories marked as "Done" still appears in the next sprint

Jeffrey Luna September 11, 2019

Hi JIRA community,

Good day!

Would like to ask how can we remove the completed stories in the previous sprint from our active sprint. I also checked the board configuration and Done status is in the Done column.

Let's say we have Story 0001, Story 0002 marked Done in Sprint 39 but still appears in Sprint 40 (active sprint).

As a workaround, I directly edit the stories and delete "Sprint 40" in the Sprint field. And when I get back to board and validated it's gone.

Our JIRA version is 7.6.3.

Thank you!

Hi @Jeffrey Luna

Is 'Done' column the right most column of the board?

In a scrum board, an issue is considered DONE only after it reaches the right most column. Not when a resolution is added to the issue or when it reaches a status named "Done".

Hi @Fazila Ashraf

Thank you for the answer. Yes. It is in the right most column of the board.

Follow up question. Why it still appears in the active sprint and sitting in the Done column with strikethrough in their description?

The strikethrough would mean that there is a resolution set on the issue.

Can you share a screenshot of your column configuration?

@Jeffrey Luna  , i see that the 'Done' status is mapped to the right most column 'Done'. So it should actually work.

Can you un-map the old statuses from Done column and remove them? I dont think that causes this.. but just to clear it off the problematic cause...

Can you confirm that - "you transition issues in a sprint to status 'Done' and then complete the sprint. A screen pops up that x number of issues are done and y number of issues are incomplete and would move to next sprint. And when you say ok, the issues that are done are still moved to the next sprint."

Can you also share the screenshot of that 'Complete sprint screen' which tells about the the number of issues that are done.. Is that numbers correct?

Not the sprint report.. When you complete the sprint next time, take a snap of the 'Sprint complete screen' that says " x number of issues are done and y number of issues are incomplete and would move to next sprint. "

I cant see the sprint report clearly.. But is it possible that the dates of the sprints are not actual reality? I mean, do you set the new sprint start date as a past date from the actual clicking of 'Start sprint' button?

Thats to check the possibility that the you have set a past date to the new sprint and the issues in question were completed in that time frame.

Jeffrey Luna September 13, 2019

Hi @Fazila Ashraf

Here’s the date of 2 sprint.

Sprint 39: 8/15 to 8/29

Sprint 40: 8/29 to 9/12

I see that 8/29 is the end date of sprint 39 and this is the start date of sprint 40. Maybe there’s something to do with the team schedule sprint? I will check with the client if they change their sprint date.

Thank you!

@Jeffrey Luna  , Do let me know how it goes.. :)

Hi Fazila,

Here's the screenshot of possible issue. The story status is Done but when I check it in the board, it's still in the To Do column. 2019-09-17_7-35-15.png

Is the column configuration you gave in earlier comment is of the same board? I see that the column config has 'To do/<..>' but its different in the board above...

Can you check the board config -> column of this particular board to see which column the 'done' status is mapped to?

Jeffrey Luna September 16, 2019

Yes. It's different. Sorry for the confusion. Below screenshot is the board config. You're correct, JIRA don't recognize the issue as Done unless it is in the Done column in the board. That's why issues in the previous sprint (has a status Done, but not move to Done column) is included in the active sprint. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Thank you!

pwww.. that clears it.. I was wondering what else could be the reason.. :)

Yes, In a scrum board, an issue is considered DONE only after it reaches the right most column. In your case, it is the 'done' column.. but it can be named anything.. All it matters is the 'right most'

Thank you @Fazila Ashraf

I really appreciate your help and assistance.

Hi,

what about values in Resolution field? Is it empty or not?

If yes, then you have wrong configuration in your workflow and you will need to add post function for adding Resolution value.

Jeffrey Luna September 12, 2019

Hi @Petr Vaníček

The value of reso field is also "Done".

Although I only added a screen "reso screen" once the issue is moved to Done.

Thank you!
