Subtask Alternative Field Configuration

joemallion March 11, 2022

Hi guys,

I am trying to alter the setup of the fields for the subtasks on one of our projects so that certain fields that are required for the main tasks are not required for the subtask.

I have setup a new "Field Configuration Scheme", shown here - https://i.imgur.com/s6usC0k.png

and then associated this with a "Field Configuration" - https://i.imgur.com/daP3lfp.png

I have made the "Client" field not required within this - https://i.imgur.com/W3g2Xsx.png

Now I am not sure how to tell subtasks to use this setup.

Any ideas on how to do this would be amazing!

@joemallion

As per image you have created Field configuration scheme - EngineRoom Scheme

Now you need to associate this Scheme to Project

1. Go to the Project Setting to which you want to associate this scheme

2. There Select Fields.

3. On Right hand side > Action? use different scheme

4. There you can select EngineRoom Scheme

@joemallion

I'm assuming you are working with a Company Managed project.

In that case, the project already has a Field Configuration Scheme associated to it.

In the Field Configuration Scheme issue types are associated to Field Configurations.

In the below image, the issue type Story uses the "DEV STORY Default Field configuration" and all other issue types (in projects that use this Scheme) will use the "DEV Default Field Configuration"

You need to add your Subtask Field Configuration to the Field Configuration Scheme associated to the project, and within that Field Configuration Scheme associate your Subtask Field Configuration to the Subtask issue type

Thanks for the pointers it's a little confusing, esp with my small brain.

I think I have the two sets of configuration setup - https://i.imgur.com/stMyIzp.png and https://i.imgur.com/ZFA36jT.png

But how do I then tell my project to use this scheme?

You can see here there is only one scheme and it isn't associated with the project - https://i.imgur.com/CSY1mUQ.png

Thanks for any pointers :)

You need to go to Project Settings in your project.

Next, in the navigation pane on the left, under Issues click on Fields. That should bring up a screen titled Fields that shows the Field Configuration Scheme (and the Field Configurations in it) that is currently associated with your project.

Click on the Actions button in the upper right and select "Use a Different Scheme".

Then select the Field Configuration Scheme you created (EngineRoom Scheme) to associate that scheme to the project.
