I added a new issue type for managing bugs inside stories. The issue type is created. It is also part of default issue type scheme - valid globally across projects. But the newly created issue type is not showing in my project.
Help?
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Is it not showing when you click "create sub task" when you are looking in an issue?

Then you have either not associated the issue type scheme with the new sub-task to the project, or it is a team-managed project (which don't have issue type schemes, just a tick-box for enabling the single sub-task type)

Ok, that answers it - TMPs only have a single sub-task type.

Hi @Siddharth J Multiple possibilities here:
1. Sub-tasks do not display under 'Create'
You mentioned the new issue-type as 'bugs inside stories' Thereore I would assume that you selected "Sub-Task Issue Type (Level -1)" when creating the issue type. The 'Sub-Task' issue types do not show under the global 'Create' button. Instead, look for the 'Create Sub-task' button under the summary of an existing normal issue like a Story.
2. 'default issue type scheme' does not mean default for all projects.
Every project has an issue type scheme associated, if not the default issue type scheme gets associated. Please check in the project settings under 'Summary' if the correct issue type scheme is selected and your new issue type is part of it.
3. Team-managed vs company managed project.
The project you want your issue type to appear might be 'Team-managed' in that case, global issue types will not be part of it and you have to create project specific issue types inside the project. Look for 'You're in a team-managed project'/'You're in a company-managed project' in the bottom left corner while inside your project.
There might be other possibilities, so just comment if those 3 options do not apply to you, so we can drill deeper.

thanks @Wolfgang -Litew8 GmbH-
eliminating 1.
eliminating 2. I haven't configured anything for the project so the global default should apply. double-checked it.
for 3, I'm in a team-managed project. when I go and create an issue type from inside the project it gets auto-mapped to level 0, i.e., at the bug, story, and task level. there is no way for me to move it to sub-task level (-1)
Any input from the community is appreciated, thanks!

Hi @Siddharth J
in that case, I sadly have bad news for you. Team-managed projects right now do not support custom sub-task issue types. Please vote and watch the feature request for more information and updates.

You might look into checklist addons. There are even free apps (Esp. under 10 users) on the marketplace, and I would assume most also support team-managed projects.

For each bug found inside a story/task just create a checklist entry, and put it in your definition of done, that all checklist entries need to be resolved before the task gets resolved.
Cheers and good luck.

@Siddharth J By the way, if my answer solved the initial asked question, you may mark it as accepted solution. Males to easier for others to find and gives me internet points 😉
