Sync Projects between tools

Hi,

Atlassian is releasing lots of new tools like Atlas, Product Discovery etc.. But all of them need a project setup. Why can't I use the same project from Jira in the other tools? I can't even create the same project with the same code on another platform. This makes it really unclear.

It's already getting hard to understand what to use for what....

Hi @Osman Beyaztas,

Do you have an actual question we can help you with?

The tools you mention all serve a certain purpose. Atlas e.g. does not require a project setup as you mention. It is a directory for your teams and a catalog where you can communicate status of your projects and goals. Jira Product Discovery is meant for product owners to collect feedback and mine ideas for existing products even before they are being built.

Just as an analogy to Microsoft: they have a lot of products too. If I want to write a letter, I would go to Word but that is not the best place if I want to make a spreadsheet, right?

The same goes for the Atlassian ecosystem. As it grows, new capabilities are unlocked and new tools emerge. But if you don't need them, you don't have to buy or use them.

Hope this helps!

Hi Walter,

I fully understand that the products are meant for different purposes, BUT if you work on 1 project and you want to use e.g. Product Discovery to get feedback/ideas it's not possible to do this easily. If you want to give the users somehow a seameless experience and want to name projects the same this is also not possible, since JPD is not allowing you to create a project with the same name..

So what i'm trying to say is that for me it's really confusing all these tools doing the same, managing projects (updating audience, gathering ideas, etc) So it would be good if you could somehow connect them easier with each other.

Don't come with MS as an example ;) Because there are clear differences between Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.. I feel that at alassian products it's not that clear and would be good if the some of the master items like Projects would be shared.

I do follow to a certain extent, @Osman Beyaztas. As new capabilities emerge, I too sometimes wonder why certain new views are not shared across other products. The list view of JWM and its concurrent editing feature would be great for JSW projects as well, to name an example.

On a side note: if there is one thing that is shared across Jira, it is projects. I wish they weren't called projects, as that is the source of a lot of confusion. But if you think of them as containers for issues, you'll quickly notice that they do share a lot in common: issuetypes, workflows, issue linking, fields, screens, ...

Managing a project in real life also requires a lot of different activities to be performed. Some (even a lot) of it is knowledge work: having brainstorms, documenting requirements, testing stuff and making decisions on what (not) to do. During the project, you need to track how things are going, mitigate risks, report to stakeholders. And afterwards, when your project completes, you probably want to archive certain things, but most likely also keep stuff indefinitely like lessons learned, product documentation and so on.

I can't think of a tool that has all these capabilities and is not complex or forces you to strictly follow the tool rather than having the flexibility to adapt to the way your team(s) want to work. While there is definitely - and always - room for improvement, I am happy with the flexibility to bend the tools quickly to the way I want (my teams) to work (together), each in their own favourite space but closely linked together.

At the same time, it is thanks to positive feedback on areas where the tools and collaboration can be improved, that over time the platform becomes better. So definitely don't hesitate to share suggestions with the product team(s). You can use the in-product feedback feature for that. In JPD, you can find a button for that near the bottom left side of the screen:
