TFS and JIRA

Our company is spread over several locations, which are growing together more and more.

We are trying to reduce the number of used tools. No decision has been reached yet for TFS or for Jira. The developers at one location work with TFS. The developers at the other location with Jira. Both will work together in the future. There are still too many arguments against replacing one of the two tools - also because other departments work with the tools.

Does anyone have experience with the interaction between TFS and Jira or the replacement of TFS or of Jira? Who uses TFS4JIRA or a comparable tool?

Does it make sense to synchronize between TFS and Jira? How big is the effort? What are the hurdles? What is possible?

Who can help us? Who has already replaced TFS with Jira or Jira with TFS? Who uses both TFS and Jira and synchronizes e.g. with TFS4JIRA? I am very interested in your experiences.

We use TFS4Jira, but mostly in a 1 way, from jira to TFS. TFS is still our official source code repository so we have to keep a lot of history and such in there.

Issues are created in Jira, and tfs4jira creates a matching issue in TFS with the TFS number added to the Jira ticket. The Developers can then check in code against that TFS number while still tracking the issue in Jira.

Requires some set up to get the mapping all working correctly. As with anything the more customization you do in TFS the more work it will be to make the mapping work.

But it works well enough for us. The most annoying part is having to install and update the connector on the TFS server when we update the Jira Add in.

@Andrew Laden can you tell me what field type you created in Jira to map the TFS ticket "ID" field to Jira? I've tried using numeric and text fields and neither work. I'm using TFS4Jira as well.

We use a single line text field.

We previously tested TFS4Jira with Jira integration.

Due to COVID impact we withdrawn purchase as it's a bit costly.

While code committing or merging you have to enter Jira Story key as comment. it takes a minute or two to refresh in your Jira Story.

After installation. There is a bit customization needed to enable administrative privileges to configure the application.
