The difference between JIRA JQL basic and advanced view?

Andy August 6, 2018

I started out n advanced view looking for a sprint where I had something that looked like this......AND Sprint =Sprint 2018.12 and when i hit carriage return nothing happened. But when i went into basic mode I could see it easily as an option. I would like to write out JQL in advanced mode rather than basic but having troubles making the jump because the interface for for basic mode wont allow me to see what is going on in advanced mode at the command line leve. Was my syntax ok with, ....AND Sprint =Sprint 2018.12?

If you get a search right in basic mode, and then click over to advanced, it will keep the JQL so you can see what the basic search is doing.

At a guess though, I'd say it's about using non-alpha characters.  Try replacing

AND Sprint =Sprint 2018.12

with

AND Sprint = "Sprint 2018.12"

Aha, thank you for that one. I fell for it once before. It was about the non-alpha characters as you said.
