Hello Community - We are working on many tickets that have "Child" or sub tasks. We place a time estimation during sprint planning on the Parent ticket. When developers are tracking time, they are putting this under the child ticket but that is not subtracting time from the parent ticket. Is there a setting I need to enable to do this?
Hello @Philip_White
Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
The Time tracking fields are only applicable to the issues they are currently set and do not sum to the issues at a higher level by default.
In fact, the old issue view provides an option to "Include sub-task estimation", but it is only a graphic option and does not really count in reports, that's why we decided to remove it from the new issue view.
In order to provide a better option with all the background details properly configured, we have the following feature request created:
Sum estimates from sub-tasks in user stories
Feel free to vote and watch the suggestion to increase its priority and also receive notifications about any updates.
As a workaround, you can use one of the following options:
1 - Instruct the Developers to add their estimations/time spent in the parent issue, optionally blocking the worklog in sub-tasks using workflow properties.
2 - Use an app to properly sum the estimation from sub-tasks to parents. Check the comments in the feature request to see some options.
Let us know if you have any questions.
@Philip_White as you can imagine, there are many types of calculations that users just like yourself would love to roll up to the parent tickets including estimations. That is we we created solutions such as Abacus.
There is probably other solutions in the market place that can possibly do the same. You have options.

We have bought the App Epic Sum Up to solve this issue in our Jira Server instance. Works as expected.
