Translating JIRA 7.12

Hi all,

I'm upgrading to JIRA 7.12, but I saw that some italian translations aren't satisfactory for us, for example "issue" is translated into 'problema', but I prefer 'segnalazione'.

In JIRA 6 we installed the "JIRA Italian (Italy) Language Pack" and it was fine. In JIRA 7.7 and previous there were the possibility to contribute to the translation (https://translations.atlassian.com/dashboard/translate) but then they removed it.

How it is the best way to correct that translation? Is there an ufficial way to tell Atlassian to change it in their plugin?

Regarding the source code, perhaps you can find it in Packaging and releasing your plugin page. Should you need additional help, try reaching out to Atlassian Developer Community (that's where fellow Developers can be found).

Alternatively, you may want to check out this free plugin: InProduct translation for Jira. This plugin allows you to make the translation in the JIRA instance itself. The changes will be made to the language pack, so that all the users using the language can also see the changes. Also, it should be possible to copy the language pack to other JIRA instances (may need some verification).

Just to clarify, on the Atlassian Translation page, there are no "JIRA Italian (Italy) Language Pack" for JIRA versions later than JIRA 7.7 because in the later versions the Italian language pack comes bundled with the installation. The languages available there are intended for the language packs that are not included in the JIRA version.

Hi Irfan,

regarding the source code I expected to find it in the atlassian-jira-software-7.12.1-source.tar.gz that you can download from my.atlassian.com. I just wanted to be sure to build something that I can compare easily with the next versions of JIRA to bring on my customizations.

The InProduct plugin declares to be compatible only to Jira 7.9.2, plus I prefer to don't use plugins if I can do myself in an easy way.

Thanks for the clarification of the purpouse of Atlassian Translation page, but now How can I contribute to the ufficial translation, or to ask for a different one?

By the way, I'm comparing tha italian translation of Jira 7.10 and 7.12 and many labels are translated correctly in the 7.10 version and non translated at all in the 7.12 version.

I did some search and have found this bug report: TRANS-2582. It seems that this report has been raised about the translation of the Italian language pack (similar to this case). We suggest visiting the page, Vote and Watch to stay updated on the progress. You may also leave a comment there if you would like to share your feedback. The request will need to be reviewed by the Developers. If you would like to know more on how bugs are being handled, you may refer to Atlassian Bug fixing Policy.

Many thanks Irfan, this is exactly what is my problem. I have voted and watched it as soon as you told me!

For now I fixed all the wrong translations one by one in the various property files, it would be nice to share it with the community. Do you know what is the best way to do it?

That's great to hear! :) Your vote will definitely help to raise the request's traction and show the Developers the impact of the bug. This should better prompt them to implement the fix as soon as possible.

Regarding the sharing of the language pack you have fixed, it does not seem there is any official way to share it. Perhaps you can upload the file (if it's not too large) on the bug report. That way, any users who have found the bug report will be able to see the file you have shared.

By the way, I started modifing the translations inside jira-core-language-pack-it_IT-7.12.1.v20180831091209.jar and repacking it.

I wanted to add to our VCS these changes, but I didn't find the source of this jar to build it as a plugin.

Where can I find the source code of jira-core-language-pack-it_IT-7.xyz.jar?
