Hi,
Total newby with the cloud version of Jira.
I have created a project, with a scrum board and we are happily adding our epics and stories, etc. At this point we need to add a kanban board to the project.
When I go to the create board option and select kanban board from existing project the dropdown to select the projec stays empty or when I type a letter says "no matches". The "Create Board" button stays disabled.
What am I missing to add a Kanban board to my current project?
Thank you,
Bob
Hello, Bob.
What I understand here is that you are getting started with JIRA Cloud and based on the description, you have created 1 project assigned to the Scrum board and you would like to create a Kanban board from here. For example:
Creating the board
Choosing an existing project
From the dropdown list, I choose the project SCRUM which was originally created with the Scrum template
Fill in the details as we can see below
Can you please confirm if you defined a name for this board when you are at the final screen as that could be one of the reasons why the Create board button is disabled? For example:
Also, were you able to create a brand new Kanban board without choosing any existing project?
Let me know if you can provide more details (for example, screen shots) to this question so I can have a clearer picture on this issue. Thanks.
Hi Ahmad,
Thank you for your answer. With searching through thye community the steps you provide are exactly what I tried to do. I get stuck at the point that when selecting the current project to assign the new kanban board to stays empty (see screenshot below), same goes for the location (see screenshot below).
> Also, were you able to create a brand new Kanban board without choosing any existing project?
Yes! This is working fine.
Thank you!

Hi, Bob.
Thanks for the information. I am wondering if the project that you have is somehow limited from having another board created from it. Can you please provide a screen shot of a step by step when you create a new project (for testing purposes) and after that try to create a Scrum (and Kanban) from there?
Just trying to narrow down what the possible root cause to this since you mentioned that it does not affect new Kanban board, which means that it is impacting existing project so far. Thanks.

Hi Ahmad,
Thank you for thinking along.
I had another issue, adding time tracking/logging to the items. And as it turned out this was not possible in a next-gen project (what it is that I had) but was possible in a classic project.
I created a new classic kanban project, moved my items there and ... this issue was no longer an issue.
Again, thank you for thinking along!

Hello, Bob.
You are most welcome. I am glad that you were able to find out the explanation to the time tracking & logging on next gen project as well. Happy to help!

Hi, I'm having the same problem. Moving to a classic project is not an option. There must be an option to create a Kanban board in a next-gen project, right?

This issue is marked as Solved. But the question describes difficulty creating a new Kanban board in an existing project.
The proposed solution is to create a new project. That is not a solution but a work around which is not very feasible for an existing ongoing project. I am experiencing this issue also now over 2 years later.
Is a new project seriously the only way to create a new board?
