Unable to search for part of issue key in parent field

I'm unable to search for an issue just by giving a part of the issue key in the parent field. This search behavior (bug?) is different from the search behavior for e.g. a related work item. Why is it so?

Hi @Peder Alm

This is a known limitation with the Parent field. Unlike other fields (e.g., Link work items), it does not support auto-complete or partial key matching, so we need to enter the full issue key.

The reason may be to maintain data accuracy, since issue numbers can repeat across projects (for example, QA-123 and IMP-123 are different issues). But still, Atlassian has an open feature request to improve this field: Enable searching by issue number.

Thank you.

Thank you for the answer!

The possibility to have "Auto complete = Yes" should be a global setting for each cloud installation. The field behavior should not be up to Atlassian to decide!!!

It is the same bug for the "Add parent" dialog..... :(

(Dialog can also be reached from the Backlog->Add Epic link)
