Unable to see the subtask card

Zubair Ansari September 29, 2023

Hi,

In my Active Sprint Board I used to view all the Issue Cards (Story, Bugs and Subtasks) but now I am unable to view Subtask Cards. I am not sure how it disappeared suddenly.

I have tried many ways to enable it but faced hard luck.
Tried with Card Layouts, Subtask Field (From Administration), Query Filters.

Please help me if I am missing anything.

Regards,
Zubair Ansari.

Hello @Zubair Ansari

Are you working with a board for a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

When you are viewing the board there will be text at the bottom of the panel on the left that says "team-managed" or "company-managed".

Do you have any Swimlanes or a Group By setting defined?

Do you have any Quick/Custom Filters activated?

Hello @Trudy Claspill

Happy to connect with you again!!!

I am not sure about Group by settings but Quick filters are enabled.

I have created the below filter as well to view subtask

project = xyz And platform in (“Android”, IOS) And issuetype in (Story, Subtask, Bug, Suggestion/Enhancement) ORDER BY created DESC

but it didn’t work out

So, it seems like you are working with a manually created board based on a saved filter.

Is project "xyz" a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

With the filter you created the issue type of your subtasks would have to be "Subtask" (as opposed to "Sub-task") and the subtask issues would have to have either the value Android or IOS in their Platform field. Do the subtask issues in the "xyz" project match that? Do you actually want to limit the subtasks to only those that have the platform field set?

Note that the default subtask issue type name in Company Managed projects is "Sub-task" while the name used in Team Managed projects is "Subtask" (no hyphen). So, make sure that you are using the right issue type in your filter.

Its a company managed project and I have included hyphen in the filter as well but still the same…

Also checked with the Issutypes for sub-task. It matches its criteria for Issutype

Is project "xyz" a Team Managed project or a Company Managed project?

When you run the filter in the "View all issues" screen, are subtasks returned in the results?

Can you provide a screen image of your board?

When I click on Stories I can see the subtasks inside it but I want subtasks to be displayed in columns.

Please click on the ... button in the upper right corner directly above the Insights button.

Select Board Settings.

Then select General.

Provide a screen image of what you see, including the Filter Query.

Example:

Then click on Edit Filter Query.

That will take you to the "View all issues" screen which will show the filter and the results of the filter.

Do you see any subtasks in the results list?

I am not convinced that you actually have any subtasks in your results set, or possibly you have modified the filter after navigating to the "View all issues" screen.

Your filter includes

issuetype in (standardIssueTypes(),Bug,Story,"Suggestion/Enhancement")

That is actually excluding subtask issue types from the results set, unless Bug, Story, or Suggestion/Enhancement is actually a subtask issue type.

In the "View all issues" screen, after you have navigated there from clicking the "Edit Filter Query" link, please click on the "Switch to JQL" option and provide a screen image of the JQL as shown in the "View all issues" screen.

I was unclear.

I want a screen image from the "View All Issues" screen that shows the full JQL and shows the results set including an issue that is a subtask type of issue.

In your original post here you said:

I don't believe the JQL statement being used will actually retrieve any subtask type issues. If I am correct, that is the reason no subtasks are displayed in the board that uses that filter.

I need you to provide screen images that prove the the JQL for the filter actual retrieves subtask issue types. So, we need an image from the "View all issues" page that shows the JQL and shows that a subtask type issue is in the results set.
