Unexpected Upgrade to Premium Plan in Free Jira Project

Manuel Michel March 14, 2025

Hi Atlassian Community

I have a question regarding the Free Jira Plan.

Currently, I am working in a project team with five members, and the project duration is around 1.5 years. Our team members use different email providers such as Gmail and Hotmail.

I initially configured our Jira project as a Free Plan with sprints. However, as soon as my colleague joined, the plan automatically switched to a Premium Plan.

Additionally, all team members should be able to create and manage Jira tickets without requiring a Premium Plan.

my Questions:

  • Could this be due to the fact that he is using a different email domain (e.g., Gmail or Hotmail) and is considered an "external" member?
  • Or is there another reason why the Free Plan was upgraded automatically?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Could you please clarify if this is possible under the Free Plan, even with different email domains?

Welcome @Manuel Michel

How many users do you have on your instance? There might be a premium feature that has been activated, features for premium: https://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/premium

It's odd to go from free right to the premium. It would first need to go to Standard plan then premium.

ah ok... I see...

Currently we are 5 members. I checked also the App-Subscritpion details and it is showing up a Premiumplan for "Easy Agile TeamRhythm - User Story Map & Retrospectives"

If an App is a payd description, do I need a Premium version for Jira?

It is a bit tricky to see which App needs a Premiumplan...Screenshot 2025-03-14 114451.png

@Manuel Michel

No, apps are different from your Jira plan and they are not tied together at all.

Hi @Manuel Michel

My name is Henri and I’m a support engineer at Easy Agile. I can see you've got a trial for the Easy Agile TeamRhythm app.

There's no Standard/Premium plans for apps at this time. I can see the screenshot shows Premium listed as the plan for the host Jira Cloud site. The TeamRhythm app itself isn't a Premium edition, and it will work on any Jira Cloud plan.

Since your host Jira site has under 10 users, you'll be on the Free tier for the Easy Agile TeamRhythm app. When the trial ends, the license will automatically convert to a regular subscription and you'll be charged $0 for the app.

Let me know if you have any questions about the app!

Kind regards,
Henri, Support Engineer @ Easy Agile
