I am about to upgrade from Jira 8.1 to 8.6, going to the "Plan my Upgrade" section it shows that I am running an unsupported database. So I just upgraded Postgres to 10.0 and replaced the JDBC jar file with 42.2.6 as suggested. However, it still shows unsupported database.
Here is my database information:
What am I missing. Seems that 8.6 supports Postgres 10.0 and the 42.2.6 Postgres JDBC driver according to https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/supported-platforms-938846830.html
Yes, Jira 8.6 does support PostgreSQL 10 with the 42.2.6 JDBC driver but it is not supported on JIRA 8.1. Thus, we generally do not recommend upgrading the database for this version of Jira. We suggest upgrading using the fallback method where you will install the new instance, and then restore the database
There might be a bug with the Pre-upgrade planning tool. Could you attach a full-screen screenshot of the results where it says unsupported database?

Adrian Stephen
So I only upgraded the database and the driver as preparation to upgrading JIRA to 8.6 from 8.1. So what your saying is I should upgrade to 8.6 then upgrade the database afterwards? I am a little confused.
Since I am doing this off hours and can take snapshots of both virtual servers, would using the fallback method be necessary?
