Unsupported Version Error for Jira Server app

The jira server app updated today, and now refuses to work because my Jira installation is not on version 8.3.

I'd upgrade, but Jira 8.3 isn't released yet.

Is there a timeline for releasing 8.3 in the near future? If not, can we please remove the version restriction on the app? It was working just fine on 8.2 before.

Edit: since it looks like 'soon' isn't soon enough, I have taken the liberty of producing an alternate version of the Jira server APK that will remain compatible, based on the v0.2.2 build. The package name and signing key have been altered to prevent it auto-updating to the currently-useless version. If others would find this useful, they can get a copy here: https://public.rhye.org/jira_old.apk

Please note that this APK is _not_ signed by the Jira release team, and is offered to you by me, an internet nobody. While I have made no unexpected modifications to it, you install it at your own risk.

Hey all,

The plugin for Jira Server mobile we're bundling with Jira 8.3 has some significant changes from the early access that was available in 8.0 thru 8.2. Because of some last minute changes, the latest version of the mobile apps got to the app stores before Jira 8.3 was released. As a result, it's possible to get locked out of using the app if you get logged out of it.

We would have liked to continue supporting the early access in 8.0 thru 8.2, but it would require significant work and we'd rather spend the effort making the general release in 8.3 better for everyone.

The bummer is that if you do get signed out of the app, a Jira 8.3 (which will be released soon!) upgrade is indeed what you need to do for the app to work again.

Cheers,
Daniel

Isn't Jira 8.3 EAP-2 enough? What can I do other than waiting for Jira 8.3 to be officially released in order to use the mobile app?

I'm currently using Jira 8.3 EAP-2 but it doesn't work 🙄

Hey @denysvitali - that is the case (needing to wait until 8.3 official) as the EAP version strings don't match what the app is verifying against. We're expecting 8.3 to be officially released very soon here. Sorry for the inconvenience until then! It should be possible to access your Jira instance from a mobile browser still, just not as conveniently as the app.

Thanks @Daniel Eads , I solved my problem by re-indexing with 8.3 - EAP 2.

I don't know why it fixed the problem, but it did. 👍

Dear Atlassian Team,

May I ask you to explain what from Atlassian point of view means "soon"? The question was raised around 1 month ago and there is still no any news about new version of JIRA Software.

What we have in the bottome line:

  • No public JIRA Server application
  • No beta Jira Server application
  • No new version of JIRA Server that can support beta application

Its all looks very sad.

Hi @Ross Schlaikjer and welcome to Community!

I'd like to understand a bit more your problem: is it Jira itself or an App which stopped working?

Usually Apps shouldn't prevent you from using Jira when they stop working for compatibility reasons. If it's an App, maybe they released a 8.2.X compatible version whcih you can use to downgarde the current version of the App?

Can you please share more details and we'll help you getting it back!

Cheers

Hi Micky,

Jira from the web interface is still fine.

The app in question is the official Jira server app, specifically the Android version.

As far as I know, there is no supported way to downgrade the Jira Server app.

Alright, got it!

Jira 8.3 is currently in Early Access and should become available soon. That being said, the mobile app should remain compatible, you're right.

I'll try and get someone from Atlassian answering your qestion as it seems odd to me!

Thanks for your patience!

Cheers

Still getting this error on my end after I upgrade my Jira server to 8.3. Login page shows blank then suddenly, shows something went wrong. Seems like a bug on the application. Can you guys confirm on you solved it on your end?
