Is there away to update existing backlog items with a CSV file without causing duplicates if I am not an admin and don't have access to the external importer tool?

I only want to update a couple of fields in 600 backlog items but if I try to do this it creates duplicate stories even though I included the Issue Key per the instructions. I have since found out you have to use the external importer tool but you have to be a admin to have access to that function.

Hi @Chasity Carmichael

You are doing it the right way. To verify, I have used issue id as well, and I was able to reproduce the same error. Post the import its showing that 0 issues were imported as its supposed but when you verify there is a new issue created and existing issues are not being updated.

You can report the Bug on the Atlassian support platform and the support team will get back to you.

Should I be able to update with Issue ID without admin access?

I tried both issue key and issue id, I thought that issue id would help as it is a system identifier, but it did not work either.

I suggest reporting it to Atlassian.

Hi @Chasity Carmichael -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

There are several open suggestions to fix this behavior, such as these two:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-62865
https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-81633

You may watch / vote for them to see any progress, although one of them is quite old.

Kind regards,
Bill
