Updating the new incoming webhook

Ismail Sanni May 12, 2025

I'm preparing to update and migrate to the new incoming webhook trigger. Since most of the automations weren't created by me, I'm having trouble linking incoming webhooks with sending web requests. How can I identify which 'send web request' is associated with an incoming webhook? The urls seems to be different. Most of the incoming webhooks and send requests are internal automations in Jira.

Hi @Ismail Sanni

As you describe the rules were not created by you, I recommend using rule export to find them:

  • from the global rule list, export all of your rules to JSON
  • open the result in a text editor / viewer, and search for your URL
  • once found, identify the rule name
  • return to Jira to examine the rule for necessary changes

Kind regards,
Bill

Hi Ismail,

This is much easier to view from the global automations section, as you can search for specific actions in the filters.

In the filters I believe you can choose the incoming webhook action to filter by.

Let me know if that is easier for you, or if what I've said is accurate. I don't have Jira Infront of me at the minute.

Thanks

Aaron.

Yes, I can do that but how do I know which automation is sending the web request.

I have 20 automations, with 9 having incoming webhooks and 11 sending web requests. If I select an automation that receives an incoming webhook, how can I identify which of the 11 automations sends web requests to it?

You can't have an incoming webhook without having another automation sending web requests.

You can have an incoming webhook from almost any source, it doesn't need to be a Jira automation. It could be coming from another platform like Slack, GitHub, Google.

The right thing to have done would have been to put the system name/automation in the description. If that wasn't done, I feel bad for you.

I had to do this a while back and for a few automations I was able to reach out to the user who created the automation to ask them which system the webhook was coming from.

Best of luck.

Thanks for input.

Unfortunately no tag take was added but that's a good tip.
