Upgrade JIRA Software from 7.1.2 to 7.9.1

We are using JIRA Software 7.1.2.  We are planning to upgrade it to 7.9.1.  We are using MySQL v5.1.  But the supported platform document from the url (https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/supported-platforms-938846830.html) states only 5.5 to 5.7 are supported. 

May we keep staying at MySQL v5.1 after we upgrade to 7.9.1?

Hello,

the databases on that page, are recommended and tested by Atlassian. That does not mean that there can be compatibility with others dbs.

The best option is to create a test environment and upgrade to the new version. If everything goes well, check the boot logs and make a test plan controlling the errors.

On the other hand, you should check the bugs of that version of the database.

Maybe that will give you a reason to update.
