We have a drop down field called Sub-departments and this field will be used across multiple projects in Jira and for all the projects the drop down values are different for now I created a multiple drop down fields with the same name and that seems odd because when we make the JQL search its really hard to identify which field belongs to which project is there a better way if so please suggest.
sure this can be done easily in Jira using the field contexts, you could have multiple contexts added to the same field and assign each context to a different field that way you have the same field name but different drop down values for each project where you use this field. This should solve your problem but the only this which might be difficult to solve is if you already have existing issue where you used the previously created field then you might have to clear them and use the new field values which can of course be done using some plugins easily.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the quick reply I will try this and let you know hopefully everything would work as expected.
