Users Unable to Return to Dashboard using Browser Return/Back Option in New Jira Navigation

Hello Atlassian Community,

I hope that this message finds you all well! Since moving to the new navigation in Jira, some users in our instance have been experiencing issues using the back button in their browser. Specifically, when users click on a subset of work items from a Dashboard gadget and are taken to the work items list (non-saved filter), when trying to navigate back to the same dashboard, it does not navigate to the dashboard due to lag or navigates to a different/incorrect dashboard. Previously, they had no issues with this navigation and frequently relied on it to move back and forth to the Dashboard.

Now, anytime the user would hit the back button after being in a work item, it would not leave the work item and the user is having to reload the dashboard each time. Similarly, when selecting the "back to search" option in the upper right corner of the work item, it took the user back to the list that they were originally in but is unable to navigate back to the original dashboard.

A few other users have experienced a similar issue, but it does not occur consistently. The user has tried to use Jira in different browsers and with keyboard shortcuts, but they still experience the issue. It was recommended they clear their browser, but given that it is occurring in different browsers, this does not seem to help. They tried to use the open in new tab option but are still experiencing navigation issues.

Are any other users/teams aware of this issue? Any additional troubleshooting recommendations, alternate navigation recommendations, or recommendations to resolve the issue would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi @Ellen Gruebbeling ,

I have not experienced this myself (nor any of our users/clients have reported this), but if you've tried to use different browsers and still experiencing the issue, it might be something on the provider's end.

Anyway, one thing I would mention is the possibility of giving feedback on the new nav via the interface button in the left navigation.

Also, I've tried checking JAC for open features and bugs and there might be some relevant to the behavior you're seeing. Specifically, this one: JRACLOUD-94274: Navigating to project apps with new navigation enabled causes loss of project context, non-functional back button, and error on home navigation.

To be honest, there might be some issues you might stumble upon when using new nav, but they are all fixed relatively quickly once reported to the dev teams.

Cheers,
Tobi
