Velocity reports in Kanban Board

Is it possible to get velocity reports in Kanban Boards or only in sprint boards? I can't seem to find the velocity report but wondering if it's because we're using the Kanban Board. Is there any way to do a custom report to set this up if it's not supported natively? I basically want to assess story point delivery/progression through our board over a defined time window (i.e. every week or two weeks).

It's actually not only possible, but really really easy. Velocity = distance/time

* points completed/time interval = v

What time interval? Whatever one the report wants. Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly? Go for it! Want an estimate on when something might get done?

* points on backlog between now and completion = x

x / v = estimate in chosen time intervals

Someone who wants to dig into the statistics could probably even add error bars to the estimate.

Wish Jira would to it.

Hi Dan,

you should switch to a Scrum Board as the velocity report needs data that's not available on Kanban boards. Maybe have a look at this thread where an app offering Kanban Velocity was mentioned but I never had a look at it.

The data needed is entirely contained within every Kanban board. It's simply time-bounded like "last week," or "last month." It's entirely possible, albeit manually, now. There is an open enhancement request for this feature that is under consideration.

this is not possible as velocity only works where time is bounded, i.e. a sprint. Here is a thread you might review for ideas.
