Hi Team,
I want to change a project from software type to service desk to enable customer portal forms on the project. I was wondering if it changes existing boards or dashboard ? what else it can impact? Could someone please advise?
Thanks,
Sushmitha
Hello @Sushmitha
How do you intend to make that change? Do you intend to make a new Service Management project and move the issues to it? If so, then that would impact all your boards and dashboards and filters because the project key and issue keys would change.
Licensing for Jira Software and Jira Service Management is separate. A user that is licensed for Jira Software is not automatically licensed for Jira Service Management. For the user to have full access to the Jira Service Management features (i.e. Queues, reports) the user needs to be granted a Service Team Member (also known as an "agent") license for Jira Service Management, and has to be made a Service Team Member for that project specifically.
Can you provide context about the problem you are trying to solve, where you think the Customer Portal for Jira Service Management will solve that problem?

Hi @Trudy Claspill ,
Thanks for your response.
We don't want to Service Desk project and move the issues to it. We just want to change the type of existing project.
User want to create customer forms on a Jira project. But the project type being software, they are not able to create customer forms. so they are asking to switch the type of the project from software to service desk.
Thanks
Sushmitha

What version of Jira are you using?
I recall reading at one time that it was possible to change the project type. I'm not sure if that is a feature that is available in all versions. If you provide your version numbers for Jira Software and Jira Service Desk that will aid my research.

Unfortunately I have not found any vendor documentation on this nor posts where users talk about their experience with changing the project type from software to service.

@Sushmitha Did you end up changing the project type? How did it go? We are looking to do the same thing but have not found any documentation on pitfalls or process.
