What should I do to make a Custom field available to all projects?

Vasan Sivaraman May 6, 2019

Hi Atlassian Community -

I added a custom (optional, text) field for a project and is available for the project only. I want it to be available for all other projects. Kindly let me know what I need to do for this.

Thanks!

Hi Vivan

As I know created custom fields are by default available for every project.

Can you tell us more details? Is it Cloud or Server JIRA? If Cloud, what type of project do you use (standard or next-gen)?

Regards,

Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

Thank you for your prompt response. It is on-Prem ( and not cloud). Our projects are standard. It was done using the instructions in https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/adding-a-custom-field-938847222.html. We first applied it under a project to see if it works. It works! However, it is not visible for other projects and I didn’t find any instructions to make it global. Any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

Vasan.

Hi Vasan

First, check custom field context (link). There you can see that CF is visible for certains projects and/or issue types. If it limited you can make it global or create second context.

Second, please check that this custom field is added to screens in projects.

Regards,

Sebastian
