Who is this Anonymous user?

I have a few automation rules set up and they appear to be working but yet the audit logs say they are failing?

When I go into the History of the issues where the audit log says the automation failed, I see an Anonymous user moved the issues to the right status. So who else can it be if not the automation rule?

Who is this Anonymous user then? Has anyone experienced something similar? Is this just a Jira bug?

in the automation for jira who do you have set as the person initiating the automation? is it blank? if so that would be it and you should set it as a user in jira. it should be under the then step I believe

All the rules have this set as the "actor" which is even more interesting since it doesn't say "Automation for Jira" in the History of the issues...

If automation for Jira doesn’t have permissions to transition issues it may not be able to. If you have transition issue permissions test that out by setting it to yourself and see if you get the desired result

I believe it should have permission, it never asked for it when I set the rules up. When I do try to change the actor I get this message:

you can confirm this by checking project permissions

add-ons need to have access in project level permissions to be able to run properly. which is why I suggested you have it act upon a user you know works

Ok I checked my permission and it atlassian-addons do have permission to edit issues. I can change the actor to someone else and see if their name appears in the History

we know that the add on has permission otherwise the transition wouldn't go through. What I am suggesting is try adding to that project role "Automation for Jira" specifically to see if it then shows up as Automation for Jira rather than anonymous user.

Go to the project, and go to roles and add "Automation for Jira" to "attlassian-add-ons-project "Project Role

Also, Edit Issues is not the correct permission for transitioning issues, for adding the resolution of done it is, but you also need Transition Issues permission. For future reference if users have issues.
