Why Does Updating Sprint Name in One Project Update In Another Project

Annie Lockwood July 22, 2022

I have two different boards in Jira. For some reason, When i edit an upcoming sprint in on my WIDGET board, it is somehow changing the name of a sprint on my LIFE board to the same thing.

These projects are unrelated, so I do not want this to happen. They each have their own sprints and backlogs.

Any ideas what I might have done to link this and how to undo?

Hi @Annie Lockwood,

This is because sprints are a global concept in Jira. You create a new sprint in a board (any board really), but can then assign this sprint to issues from anywhere in Jira.

If your boards (by the power of their board filter) share the same issues, assigning a sprint from one board to an issue that is also on the other board, then makes that sprint also appear on the other board.

If you update the name of the sprint on one board, it will appear as if the sprint in your other board has been updated too. But in reality, it is the same sprint (that in fact doesn't even exist in the second board).

I hope this clarifies!

@Walter Buggenhout Then, how to avoid this and what is the solution?
