Why I am no longer able to manage sprints?

Davit Sarukhanyan July 21, 2020

Hi.

I am no longer able to manage sprints in our board, it says that "Only Jira administrator can ..." and it's confusing cause I'm one of administrators of board.

This problem has arise recently, I have always been able to manage sprints in that board.

Thanks.
Regards,
Davit

Hi @Davit Sarukhanyan

Welcome to the community.

Building on what Bill said above, the ability to manage sprints is not based on being the administrator on a board. That is a permission that is allocated at the project level. So, you must have the Manage Sprint permission in every project from which your board may be pulling issues.

Note that this can easily become a problem if the filter for your board does not explicitly specify the projects from which it pulls issues. For instance, if the filter is set to look for values in other fields like Components or Labels, and does not constrain which Projects are searched, then the result is that the board is capable of pulling issues from ALL projects in your JIRA instance and you would have to have the Manage Sprint permission in all the projects.

Hi @Davit Sarukhanyan  -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

This can happen when your board filter is accessing a project to which you do not have permissions.

To check this from your project, select the ... (ellipses) at the right of the page > board settings > general > filter

Examine if there are other projects noted in the filter.  If so, check each one to see if you have permissions to access it.

Best regards,

Bill

Hi @Davit Sarukhanyan

The first place to check is the permission settings to see if you still have the "Manage Sprint Permisssion". As this is separate to having an administrator permission.
