Why am i not able to change the OWNERSHIP of Filters/Dashboards

Venkatnath Lokanathan May 26, 2020

Thanks for your detailed documentation on everything.  It has answers for whatever i look for.  But this one, am not sure why i was not able to add another user as a SHARED Owner to edit my Filters/dashboards. Neither i see an option to transfer the ownership from mine to him, though i have the ADMIN access.   I read thru the help articles https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/JIRA052/Managing+Shared+Filters?_ga=2.224964954.1575824590.1590487043-55297204.1588000083 this one clearly says how to achieve it, but when i get into Admin page - USERS - i don't see "Choose Administration at the top right of your screen. Then choose Users > Shared Filters to open the Search Shared Filters page."

If you can help me quick, i will be happy  Thanks in advance.

Hi @Venkatnath Lokanathan

It is not possible for multiple persons to be owners of a filter or dashboard. Or to administrate them. There is an open request with Atlassian that you can vote on and follow here:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-17783

To change the owner of the filter or dashboard:

1. Go to Settings > System

2. Chose Shared Filters or Shared Dashboards

3. Change the owner

Thanks for the quick response.  I am fine to change the owner from me to someone.  But when i try going thru the Settings>System to Change the owner, its not able to locate the name of the user to whom i m trying to change.  It shows something like this in the attachment.  How do i locate such user id or name of the TO PERSON to whom i m trying to swap the ownership.

You can go to the Settings > User Management to see the names. If you click on a person to see details, you will see that person's AccountID in the URL. Simply replace that persons ID with the one above and hit enter. It should show you who belongs to that accountID.

You will need jira-site-admin privileges to see user accounts.

Thanks.  I was able to get the account ID of the TO Person and tried to CHANGE OWNER of my filter.  It says a different message now.

We’re you trying to change the owner to you? Or someone else?

Venkatnath Lokanathan May 27, 2020

I was trying to Change the owner of a filter which i own to Other person.  I found the AccountId of the other person and keyed in there.  Thats when i got a different message.

Check the Settings > System > Global Permissions to see if that user has the permissions needled to share filters and dashboards

Hi John, Thanks.

I see things are not set properly by my JIRA ADMINS.  I was able to see the option of how to verify the GLOBAL PERMISSIONS but i dont see an option of adding the User or a Group to this permission of SHARE DASHBOARD & FILTERS.  So i m not in a position to change the owner my filter to others :(

You need to have your Jira System Administrator give you that permission.
