Why are completed items carrying over from sprint to sprint?

Kate Secor August 2, 2023

Here's the scenario:

We are running Jira Data Center. There is a project where completed items are carrying over from sprint to sprint, and I can't figure out why. Here's what I've checked:

1. The issues are all in a completed status category.
2. The issues have a resolution set.
3. The "done" statuses are all in the furthest right hand column of the board.
4. There is only one sprint on the board, so it's not displaying issues from another sprint that isn't completed yet.

Anyone got any idea of what I can check next? This poor team is really confused.

Your third point is the one that matters - the issues must be in the last column on the board that the sprint is defined for (it won't work if it's another board with a different "done" column").

Do your issues have any sub-tasks that are not also shown in the last column of the board?

All the issues are in the far-right column of the board where the sprint is defined.

All the sub-tasks of the issues that have them are also in a completed/resolved state and on the far-right column of the board.
