Why can't I add timelines to a Roadmap Epic in Jira?
I'm using the Basic version of Roadmap in Jira. For some Epics I can add a timeline, but for other Epics I can't. I can't figure out what the difference is between the Epic. Or is it a bug?
When I add an issue to an Epic I can add this issue to the timeline. But I want all Epics to be shown in the timeline.
Hi Mike - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Are the Epics on the same project? Or different projects? What type of project(s) is it? Team-managed? Company-managed? Is it JWM or JSW project?
They are all from the same Project. The project type is "Software". They issues are all op type Epic. There are 105 issues/epics in the project.
What do you mean with Team/Company managed? And JWM/JSW project?

JSW is Jira Software so that one is answered. In the bottom left of the screen it should either say "You're in a company-managed project" or "You're in a team-managed project".

I really can not see the difference between an Issue for which the timeline is visible and changeable in the timeline, and another Issue that's not visible. I'm creator of both issues.
When I create a new issue I'm able to add a timeline. For older issues I can't.

So, are you going to the board and then Configure Board (or Board Settings) and then Timeline? While in there, for the one that is not working, take a look to see what the board filter looks like (General tab) to see if maybe they are excluded in the board.

There is just one board in this project. In the left navigation I go to Timeline and then I see by example these three Epics in the timeline. For the first two test items I can see a gant bar in the timeline. And I can change the timeline for these items. For the last one, "Internal", there is no gant bar visible and I can't add one.

There were none visible in the details. So I configured Start Date and End Date. Filling these had no effect. Which date fields are use for showing the progress bar?

We still are within these limitations. We have 105 epics, no other issues. The Issues are visible on the timeline, but for some items we can't change add/change the timeline (start/end date).
