Why can you add a field via the layout although it was removed from the screen?

Laci Kremer July 29, 2022

I've added a screen for an issuetype without the Story Point field, so it should not appear, but a project admin was able to add it via adding it to the Layout.

How do I control which field can appear on a ticket? I know that field configuration context are the first level of control for this, but isn't  screen configuration a filter above that?

Hi @Laci Kremer

Project admins can't add fields to screens. Only Jira Admins can do that.

Can you please explain a bit more as to what screen is that to which you've added Story points and if that screen is the view screen for a specific issue? And let us know which Layout you refer to. Issue layout or card layout?

Usually you control the fields visible to a user via the View Issue screen of that specific issue type. If a field is on that screen, then it will be visible to the user.

This is the Sub-task issue type's screen:

So the Story Points field is not here.

And this is is the layout for the same issuetype:

The result is that the Story Points field appear when I open a Sub-task.

Since layout is editable by project admins, they can change if this field appears or not.
