Why do issues with remaining estimates = 0 won't be scheduled furthermore by JIRA Portfolio?

Hi there,

I use JIRA Portfolio and I've unfortunately experienced that if the remaining estimate of an unresolved issue falls to 0, it won't be scheduled furthermore by JIRA Portfolio.
I do consider this as a major bug, because it can happen that the original estimate is way lower than the hours logged to that issue. In that case the remaining estimate could end up being 0, while the issue is still in progress. As a result, JIRA Portfolio won't schedule the ongoing task furthermore.

Please advice me what to do, and if so, raise an atlassian ticket with the proper priority.

Thx in advance,

Balázs

Hi @Balázs Bogda

The percentage of progress for each issue refers to the number of Remaining Estimate left to be worked on.If an issue has 0 estimation this means there is nothing left to do, thus Portfolio consider that 100% of the work is completed and won't schedule this issue. Please note that Estimation in Portfolio is linked to Remaining Estimate field in Jira.

All issues need to have a remaining estimate >0 to be handled correctly by Portfolio algorithm, so this is expected.

In case you still need those issues to be calculated in your plan, you can refer to this doc Scheduling unestimated items based on target dates

Hope this helps you! :)

Hi @GA,

Thanks for your quick reply. I thought it through once again. In case of an underestimation, a re-estimation needs to happen (hours to be added into the (remaining) estimates field), so that Portfolio can consider that change and schedule it accordingly.

Kind regards,
Balázs
