Why do newly created statues override existing statuses in workflows

I created a new status called 'Awaiting CI' which has automatically changed a status in an existing workflow, why?

I know that changing an existing status will effect all workflows its associated with (which is really annoying) but this was a completely new status!

Creating a brand new status will not override any existing statutes in other workflows or anywhere else. That is not designed functionality, nor have I ever seen it happen. It sounds like it was accidental, but this behavior only occurs when an existing status was modified.

Hi Kian,

Thank you for the reply. The new status I created did override an existing one for sure. There is a possibility that this status has previously existed and was deleted/renamed, and as such Jira remembers its original internal ID and just used it again when I recreated it? I suspect this because I created a completely random status (I love cheese) and all was as expected.

I'm going to test this theory in my dev instance and will revert with my findings.
