Why i have to perform a reindex when i edit custom field (options or other)

Hello team

 

I have added a new custom field, added it to a screen and ultimately to a project.

The custom field that I have added is showing up perfectly on create issue screen without a re-indexing.

My question is - is it mandatory to re-index after custom field addition? What are the drawbacks of not re-indexing after custom field addition.

Hello,

Reindex is not mandatory. If you are sure that nothing changed, then it is not necessary to reindex. 

Values of the fields are stored in indexes. If you switch a searcher for a field, there is a good change that the values in the index must be changed according to the searcher. If you did not touch the searcher, then everything should be ok.

@Alexey Matveev  that's right , but now i would likr to understand if i change the custom field , option or name ? it's mandotary to perform a reindex ?

If you change an option , then you need to perform a reindex. or you will have old options in your indexes. If you change the name of the custom field, then no .

@Alexey Matveev  i do not agree with you because i changed the option of a custom field and without re-indexing , i see that option modified in issue . also the same thing for name .
