Why my UI is looking different

hellok May 30, 2020

Hi,

I have attached 2 pictures. Look and feel of the GUI is very different on both. First one doesnt have Boards in the menu, second has it.

Is it just the version difference? or am I using a different product in each.

Hi @hellok  - Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

This question appears to be a duplicate of another here that you just entered as well:

https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Jira-Software-discussions/Why-my-GUI-is-looking-different/m-p/1393205#M2786%3Futm_source=atlcomm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=immediate_general_discussion&utm_content=topic

There is no need to submit multiple questions to the Community - you can simply edit your question or respond on the original question.

Can you go ahead and close this one out so we can concentrate on the other one?

Thanks!

Thanks for the response. Sure. But I am not able to see a Close button

Also, unfortunately, the response (in the other thread,,,which i dont see any more) doesn't answer my question.

May I know why is the look different? Both are cloud links. Both have xxx.atlassian.net urls.

How do I see change it so I can see Boards in the top Menu bar?

Appreciate the response.

TIA

You can just click on the Accept Answer to close it out.

But I will attempt to answer here.  :-)

The one at the top without Boards is the new top navigation for Cloud that Atlassian Jira is moving to. I have asked more than one about the Boards selection and they say there are no plans to add it.

Having said that, if you click in the Search box you will see a link to the Boards at the bottom of that window.

I am not familiar with the second image you posted. Can you tell me how you navigated to that view? What exactly did you click so I can see if I can duplicate it.

Thanks John.

I am unable to reproduce the 2nd look.

I saw it here.

https://www.udemy.com/course/learn-jira-complete-from-scratch-to-expert/learn/lecture/7453544#announcements

The second one is also how we have it configured in our company (for which I am not the admin). We use JIRA 7.11 version and I believe it is not cloud (because my company jira url does end with .atlassian.net

I also see similar look and feel on many other training videos.

If you see the snapshots in this link, they all show menus with Boards in them. They are all like the one in my second pic.

Boards is not the only issues. The features within the product also look different. The navigation has changed a lot as well.

i am wondering if the new look started sometime between versions 8.0 and 8.6

8.0 doesnt have it.

Yes, the new navigation is rolling out now and probably for the latest versions. So as you upgrade to new versions you will eventually get it.

Yes, you have server version. I was confused because your post listed it as Cloud.

hellok May 30, 2020

Ok...so i was referring to a total of 3 environments

1st - pic above.... my account on atlassian cloud..... No boards (latest version)

2nd - pic above....a Udemy Video....also on cloud....No boards (must be old version...bcos the video might be old)

3rd - didnt paste the pic... bcos it is company environment .....Has boards (server version 7.11)

---

Now the Good News! :)

4) I JUST installed server version of Jira Software 8.9 on my personal laptop....and guess what i see......"BOARDS"

Mission accomplished.

Thanks for your help.... The discussion with you definitely got me thinking various scenarios and lead me to the set up I needed.
